....in the winter!!!!

My fiance left for L.A. this morning for work and left me her lexus IS (rwd). This has to be the worst car in the winter that I have ever driven, even with a full set of fresh snowtires. Even with the so-called "snow" mode and traction control engaged, it took me about 45 minutes today chipping away ice ruts on the laneway with a wrecking bar and spreading 2 bags of salt just to get the damn thing backed up behind my house.

I called her at the airport to tell her that the next one we get has to be awd... ARGHHH

yea on light snow its fun but heavy snow its the total oposite. my 328 is ok in the snow and i got summer tires on it too after i burn these tires out im gonna get some snow tires and buy a new set of summer rims/tires

Ive never driven the camaro in the winter, but Id suspect that the camaro would be worse (M6 with on-off clutch, more torque, no traction control, no winter tires that will fit over corvette brakes). Im moving away from the fbody and shopping for a new car that I can drive all year round due to changing priorities. I guess i should change my screen name too...

Judged on its own, the IS is still terrible in snow for a car that only has 200 hp and all kinds of electronic traction aids. The traction control works well in preventing fishtailing while cornering, but strangely, I found that I got better traction off the line from turning it off. Weird.

dude the traction control in an rx-8 is amazing, my friend would mash on it and it would spin for a split second and then bam instant traction. (In the snow)

huh? the dude who wrecked the mustang called me a douschebag prior to him wrecking his stang in my yard.

That reminds me of a friend of mine in highschool who kept telling me he was going to have to tow me home in my corrolla with his eclipse gs-x, then totalled it on ice the very same day. The moral of that story is that sometimes awd is the worst, because you forget that even though to have more wheels moving the car, you have the same amount turning and stopping it.
