brake boosting is when you hold the brakes and step on the gas at the same time to build up boost so you arent waiting for it to kick in. AFAIK it's done in roll racing with manuals more but i think built drag cars with autos and turbos do some off the line. manual cars just keep the clutch in cause you'd need close pedals or 3 feet and a sturdy clutch to handle brake boosting off the line.
other will know more, i'm sure

^^ He is right except that cars don't build boost at the line. Brake boosting is only done when roll racing or in the corners. Serious racers that have to take corners do it since it gives them full boost coming off the corners.

commonly used in Rally Racing, left foot braking, right foot on the accelerator keeps the revs up, building boost, while braking so you have instant boost when coming out of corners. it basically keeps the turbo spooled while braking/cornering.

Brake boosting (or left foot braking) is also commonly used with single turbo track cars on tracks with a variety of corners such that you can't quite tailor your gear ratios perfectly. Allows you to have a bit too high of a ratio for a given corner but still get good launch out of it. Works really well with formula cars in general given that left foot braking in a RWD car tends to induce understeer, and thus make the car more stable through the corner. Rick Mears won the Indy 500 four times by being a master of this, his most notable pass using this technique was when he passed Michael Andretti around the outside at Indy in 1991 for the win. He managed this using left foot braking/boost building despite the fact that Andretti was on fresh tires and Mears was not. Takes a lot of balls and trust in your car to make the best use of it in high speed corners like Indy.

Exactly. If the car isn't under load you can't spool the turbo. For example when you are just sitting in one spot and revving the engine you get no boost. Typically you will see cars that are pushing high boost on the streets use this technique when roll racing. It eliminates the massive lag that would normally occur.

it must kill your brakes and clutch doing this.? why not just fit anti lag.then u can get boost from a stop also

Doesn't kill the clutch since you don't use it. And anti-lag causes problems on it's own and costs money.

its just like using a misfiring system....its a really good tecnique... but it kills your engine in the process so unless you have the time and money to fix your car after every race... id suggust you not use it

As for brake boost, i actually am able to build up boost when im stopped, the car is in drive or 2 or 3, i hit the brake and gas it until i reach +-0, i cant bring it up in neutral...

from what i know it spoils the turbo up to ur max boost from a stand still.so when u se off ur on max boooost and hardly any lag.it also sounds good lol..

Anti-lag as used in WRC cars to launch is a system whereby small amounts of fuel are injected and detonated in the exhaust system between the exhaust ports and the turbo. It requires absurdly precise tuning to work correctly and even then is quite hard on the exhaust/turbo system, hence why it isn't common on road cars. As for brake boosting (or left foot braking while on the accelerator), I've never seen anyone use it from a stop. All of the times I've seen it used have been while moving, so the brakes are just providing an additional load on the engine. The clutch stays fully engaged. I don't think it would work too well on a launch, hence why all the ORSCA guys run modified automatics so they can use this exact technique.
