I just got a hdtv (32" widescreen by rca) and hooked it up to my 360. I went into system setup and chose 1080i for the display setting. It shows the dashboard in 1080 just fine. However when I go back to watching a movie it just shows it in 480p.... What do I need to do?

By movie, do you mean a DVD playing in the XBOX?

I've seen some hd television channels that were also running in 1080 so I know the tv can do it.

the movie has to be a HD DVD to be in 1080

it wont play a regular dvd in 1080, so to play a dvd in 1080 u need the hd player and a hd dvd

im going to try it on our system and see if it does the same

It should still upscale the movies to atleast 720 if not 1080 though right?

how did u know that it wasnt playing in 1080?

my settings are:

1080i
Widescreen
Extended

also u have every cord plugged in except for the yellow one right and have the cord setting on HDTV right?

when i played Gone in 60 seconds, it seemed it was playing in 1080 and when i went back to the 360 dashboard, my settings were still the same

When I hit the info button it tells what resolution it is running in.

Yeah, everything is plugged in right. Like I said, the dashboard shows up in 1080.

The XBOX will not upscale a regular DVD. I don't even think the "sold separately" HD-DVD player for XBOX will do that.

I got a 32" for the bedroom because its the perfect size for the distance (My head while laying against the headboard to the opposing wall).
