is that called a sonic boom? i believe that that happens every time an object hits mach 1,2,3 etc... something to do with ice

A sonic boom is the sound created once an object or Aircraft reaches the speed of sound.. or comes back from the speed of sound.

There really isn't a great explanation for it.. but with a sonic boom, a loud BOOm is heard, and a explosion of an instant cloud forms around the aircraft.

I may be wrong. But i've never heard of a sonic boom causing clouds around the plane. As far as i know, a sonic boom is only that, a boom. (noise).

your sort of right.

a sonic boom is a snapping sound created by an aircraft or any object breaking the sound barior. that cloud of smoke (which is actually mist) is caused by the speed of the plane as it gets closer to the water.
