Default My 1994 Ford Tempo Race Care with a 1984 Engine

I had bought this car for the engine for a spare motor and spare parts for
my Escort, well now it will be a NASCAR Sport CompactRace Car ,
no it was not my #1 chose but with the luck I had with the other bodys
I will take this onew and race it and be happy, the others were rusted out or
twisted from a accident and could not be raced.

Rip The V6 and the tranny out.

empty engine bay

Pic from a far of the car and the garage
I only enter cars back wards if I need to take engines out.

a look in the trunk no holes allmost perfect.

still in the trunk.

shock towers very solid . perfect to make a race car with.

now the front one solid too.

a few holes in the floor but nothing a few 20GA steel can't fix.

Drivers side not done .

after fixing most of it started to pain with rust paint I want to race it
a few years so im protecting it.

more paint

more paint takes a long time to paint a big 4 door car.

one more and a few more coming

painted the interior.

still the interior.

drop the fuel cell in the back.

now come to the roll cage , since we had over 4' of snow this winter
it was very hard to get at it was 100' in my bush in the back of my house
the next pics will be about that it too me and a few friends 1/2 a day
to get it out and viva for propane , you will see in the pics why I
thank propain. after shoveling all the snow out we took big Bertha out.

New propaine tank full and readdy.

after 1/2 a day we got it like 3 1/2 hours. it was the only way to get at it.

now its in the race car not fully welded but its in still have to
work on it since i need 4 bars on the drivers side of the car but here are
a few pics.

Default Re: My 1994 Ford Tempo Race Care with a 1984 Engine

now time for the engine .

it's a 2.3L HSC out of a 1984 Ford Tempo.

rules are almost stock rules but we can go .030" over so I did very hard
to find parts for a Ford Tempo motor that is over 20 years old.

lower parts is all instaled piston, conrods, crank.

work hard on it over a few week ends and put it all together.

one more pics of the engine.

now its under the hood bolted to the tranny with new cluch kit
2 motor mounts are done now one to go.

got my self some coil overs kit for a 1994 Honda Prelude works great

new brakes kit and new KYB shocks and instaled the coil overs

Brakes are now new in the back but almost, new KYB shock too.

got my wheels on with my Falken Azenis tires on.

right front rim is 3/4" off set will help in corners on this big 4 door.

this is were im at now. new pics and info coming soon but since im
only doing wires and stuff like that pics don't really show much at
this time.

A pic of me to show you all what a look like im a big Canadian guy.

INstal the front grill and the valance.

gave some tillt to my wheel its not enuff but time is short and it will
have to do till i have more time to work on it some more.

cut the coil holders on the shock car drop a few more inches looks good
I will be running at 5" from the ground not 4" it will be better for my
direction for cornering.

4 1/2" and i can't take it off the lift car drops even lower if i take
the lift legs off, but since i will need to work on it from time to time
i will ajust the ride hight to fit on the lift ezzaly and work from there.

instaled the rad and the fan need rad hose and connect power to the fan

drop the timer in and coil and electronic box i got ingnition now looks good
soon i will start the engine but i want to do it right so it will be fully
race readdy the motor when i start it . but the body will still need work.

Its now drop 4" from the ground but I will not be racing that low.

OK here is a video of the first day of start , it does not run perfect
but i have done a ton tuning since the first start and now it runs alot better.

Video of first start - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The motor is almost stock , it originaly had 90hp with 125lbs of torque
now its .030" over with the head cut .018" so its almost stock but its for a stock class of racing so i will be ok .

Looks really good.
Those tires have great grip from my experience.
I'm building up an '88 Escort GT to run in a beater endurance race.

Got any cheap handling tricks?

My build is located here:Bill's Buckets: Restorations, writing and reviews |

What type of racing will you be doing with this?

I will be racing in Nascar sport Compac up here in Montreal Canada , its about 1 hours drive from me , since I live in Ontario.

I got a ton of tips to give you to make your car handle but since my speeling is limited I will do my best t ogive you a few hints.

1992 to 1994 ford tempo V6 front bar " torsion bar" its much bigger.
GABRIEL utra shocks " Beter then KYB and Monro Sensa a track.
to give camber to your right front wheel its lots of work but here is the best way .
take it off the car take all the parts off brakes shocks bearing ,
now get it in a hydrolic press solidly, now head the knukle a bit under were the shocks mounts up to the knukle and give it 5 to 6DEG of tilt "
dont go anymore then that or your tire will touch the shock " let cool and re instal it , or get the lower control arm off a FWD lincond mark 8 its longer then the escort and will tilt the wheel. yes it fits " not 100% sure on model since i got mine in a scrap yard." drop the car to 5" from the ground.
coil overs would be nice. now depending on the track you have , you will need different gears , has for a tranny gear well you only have 2 choise
3.33 t o1 or 3.73 to 1 you have this one in the GT now this is were you will know witch one you need. Im full of trick and help for you if you need.
