I have to agree. I beat the crap outa my DSM and it just keeps coming back for more. The reason they are sometimes unreliable is because DSM owners beat the shit outa them. Take any car that is under above stock boost conditions and gets beat on dailly, they all break, honda, ford, chevy... you name it they all have issues. I don't understand why DSM's get the bad rap? |

That race happened here in San Antonio. The camaro missed going into 2nd or 3rd....the laser let off when he saw the miss shift and then floored it just to go. The puff of smoke at the end was his oil filter popping off.
As for reliability, it also plays a big role into who owns it. I know tons of dsms in town that run everyday without a major problem b/c the owner takes meticulous care of it. If you neglect any motor, regardless of make, it's going to go out on you. Just b/c it's a dsm doesn't mean that it's mechanically prone to fail. Fact is most of the cars were owned by pansies who drove them hard and never did any ritual maintanance to them and once a tuner got their hands on them crap started to go wrong and hence the jackstand warrior stereotype. I've had 2 dsms and once I caught the car up on maintanance they were extremely reliable cars. |

Yeah, the guy from what I pieced together, had his car at a local shop and then left town. The car sat at the shop forever and ended up being parted out to local DSMers. He had some nice mods. His front mount was a custom deal from two sidemounts. It was a nice DSM. Didn't look at all like it had any kick behind it but it could move.
