America was the FOREMOST NATION that brought around the internet, these people who are mostly American, or lived in the US, were the people that brought you the Internet: Larry G. Roberts(american), Robert Elliot Kahn(american), Radia Perlman (guess? American) These were the people that brought the technology about, Then the US ARMY started using this technology first, and the Internet was born. I am going to digress here and imagine you are going to argue something to the extent of "lol u dumb fuk brit empire was around so and so and so" but this has nothing to do with why the language of the internet is english, nor why its the accepted language of the world at the moment.
