Funny, on a serious note, most if not all modern religions are man-made scams meant to control people. God doesn't really care if you eat steak on friday, or whether your hot-dog is kosher or not, or whether your wine is blessed.

Lets all believe in the fake man in the sky
U can't argue logically with people that r religious...U use facts that r proven by science and can be proven over and over again, they use stories that have been passed on through time and have no fact base. We all know what happens when u stand 100 people in a line and ask them to repeat something down the line. Whatever u asked them to pass down is completely different by the time it gets to the end. Besides that, organized religion has been the cause of most major atrocities throughout history. How many wars/battles have been fought in the name of god or whatever the f*ck people wanna call it ? Dumb asses

Einstein believed in God, but not a personal god.
PERSONAL gods and religion are bullshit. "God" in reality is just a word that ties in all the intangible and unexplainable forces in nature. I agree that the idea of some kind of man in the sky is BS, but I think at a fundamental level, whatever makes a flower grow, whatever holds the planets in alignment, or keeps the sun burning....that shit is god. Whatever that force is, is something that is so far beyond our ability to even comprehend it's out of this world. Don't get me wrong, bash organized religion but realize that some of the messages in them do center around the idea of an intangible force. People read into it too closely and amke it too literal, which breed discussions like this. And to say science can disprove something is more retarded than the religious person. I'm not really a religious person, but realize science only explains things, it doesnt tell us why or how they originated from the beginning. Science only offers observational analysis: The sun burns at X degrees, or it came from this place. It does NOT explain why that thing was there, how it was made, what created the 1st molecule. To walk around with your head held high because you ride on the broken shoulders of "scientific explanation" is to walk around with your bible claiming god. Science is your God, that is what you don't realize. Christians have Jesus, modern man has Science...it's all the same cheap explanation of why things happen. Remember too that science is based around language which is a construct of the human mind, and numbers which were also created by humans. Does the universe think of itself in the same way as the human being, or does the human being glorify himself because he creates his own false rules in a game he doesn't control. Something to think about. Last edited by GTIKEN; 19 Jan 2009 at 01:16 am. |

I've already had pasta this week, thanks.
But to respond, science has brought us closer to understanding the past, present, and future of the universe than religion ever has or will. Man quantifies things in a way he can understand. Just because we made up what it means to be a degree of Celsius or a kilometer, or a second doesn't make it false. Water would harden at a certain level of molecular activity, whether mankind decided it was going to be 0 degrees of Celsius or 34.657 Giminoid. It doesn't matter, things in nature DO have quantifiable, repeatable characteristics. Some we have learned, some we haven't. May I suggest a book? Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time" can be found paired with his other book "The Universe in a Nutshell". Both are very good reads if you're at all interested in how the modern view if the world came to be, and where it is heading. While they can be difficult to understand even for a physics major, he does try to explain things in layman's terms. The hard part is trying to explain 5th, 6th, ect dimensions, the curve of spacetime, D-branes, ect into layman's terms. ETA: I "stumbled" upon this website, which attempts to explain dimensions 1 through 10 with a brief flash video. http://www.tenthdimension.com/medialinks.php

I'm familiar with several of Michio Kaku's books and all of that dimensional space time relation theory. Understand though that I'm not saying any of it is BS by any means, but it's called THEORETICAL physics for a reason.
You can't explain a 6th dimensional item in simple terms, even steven hawking has no fu**ing clue what that would actually look like. He only has an imagination to think of what it would look like. No one knows because no one has ever seen one. Here is a definition you can read of the word theoretical: 1. of, pertaining to, or consisting in theory; not practical (distinguished from applied ). 2. existing only in theory; hypothetical. Math = theory. We still don't KNOW anything. You need to realize how the book meshes with reality and what you are actually reading, theoretical physics is attempting to explain the mind of god. Einstein had something he said about understanding God's thoughts, the rest are details. He means that god is this stuff, not a Christian god etc, the scientific processes that happen in higher dimensional space time = god. Yeah a lot of organized religion is bullshi*, but the idea of a higher power is not. Last edited by GTIKEN; 23 Jan 2009 at 07:52 pm. |
