THE ANSWER IS NO NO NO.......Cats cannot do any of that, cats are useless unless you own a farm, end of story....cats suck.

^ old people smell too........If you are an actual dog owner, you should give your dog a bath and then they wont smell. My dogs are well trained, and don't smell at all. They are great watch dogs and they HATE cats like I do. My jack russell terrior has killed 3 cats in his lifetime.

well i wont want a old person ether just like a dog lol.when dogs get near the end of there life they smell no matter how many baths u give them.and smell more after a bath lol.

my parents had /have dogs. and they are well trained. but not trained anuff to pick there own shit up and put it in a bin or take them selfs for walks/feed them selfs ect.dont get me wrong i like dogs loads.but not anuff to pick up dog shit.

I have had cats. They are ok.

bUT if i had to choose it would be a dog. Im thinking of getting a new one after I lost my od dog 3years ago. I had him for years, loved that dog, it was a Husky (poor animal living in portugal by the beach with all the fur ) and it was super loyal and obidient. fantastic animal.

its hard to find one to replace him. I had him for such a long time., since I was 10years old.

The only advantage of a cat over a dog is that its easier to pick a cat by the tail and use it as a bashing weapon instead of a dog... :P

Well, UKunt, like I said before.....most people are to damn lazy to take the time to train a dog properly and become its master. I trained both my dogs to shit at the far end of my property near the woods.....nobody but the dogs goes out there, it's to far away to smell and never needs to be picked up. I guess it helps that I have 7.79 acres of land.

yep well if u have the land it will be ok. but still 12+ years of shitting in one place. is a WHOLE lot of shit lol.

its the only thing that puts me off dogs.is picking up dog shit.

all the cats my parents had got trained to shit outside.but they also was trained in getting run over by cars.as they had about 15 cats and all but 1 died due to being a road rug. 4 of them i spotted half dead with there eyes hanging out.

but still id have nether.there all ass lickers

Watching some educational shows once in awhile could really help you. No, NASCAR, hunting, and fishing shows are NOT educational. Good try though.

Cats have a better sense of smell than dogs, and better sight. So let me check off what they would be better at than a dog, if trained:

Help blind people walk?
--Yup. Plus they are smaller, so it would not require much space to accommodate them in public places.

Find drugs w/ a keen nose?
--Yup.

Defend your home?
--Yup. They kill mice, and rats. That keeps lots of diseases these rodents carry out of your house.

Guard your cattle/flock?
--No. But what are you guarding your cattle from? Wolves and coyotes? They love the taste of dog meat, too. My mom has moved to the "country" and all but one of her dogs have been eaten by wolves/coyotes. It is pretty typical for dogs and cats to fall victim to wild predators.

Pull a sled for transportation?
--No. I don't own a damn sled, and would never live somewhere I would need one.

Find people in a destroyed building?
--Yup. Again, just need to be trained, and they are smaller, so can search in collapsed buildings where a dog wouldn't be able to fit.

Find dead bodies?
--Anything that requires scent/smelling would be better done by a trained cat.

Help you hunt for birds/deer?
--Yup. They actually hunt birds without your help. Till a dog learns to shot a gun, it won't out hunt a cat.

Track down a criminal?
--smell/scent, read above

Detect cancer cells in sick people?
--There is a cat at a hospice that can detect when people are gonna die. It was in the news.

Rescue a drowning person?
--I have never heard of a dog rescuing a drowning person. I have heard of several instances when people had to go and rescue dogs that were in the water.

Fight off larger predators like bear?
--Feeding the bear isn't "fighting off." The only thing the dog does is intimidate the bear, which is just as effective as if the person had been yelling at the bear. Both have a slim margin of success and can result in the death of the dog/person trying to do it.

Most of the "examples" you gave only apply if you live in the country, or on a farm. Yet cats are good on a farm, so do you have any more examples?

I know you are gonna ask, "Why don't they use cats then?"

Cause of allergies. Some people are soo allergic that they can die from coming into close proximity of a cat. Not an issue for dogs, plus most people see a dog as more lovable. Maybe it's cause "Dog People" tend to despise cats, yet "Cat People" are tolerant of dogs and cats.

It is proven that cats are smarter than dogs. Maybe we should test that same theory on cat and dog people. Probably have the same result.
