I cant evision a day when we create a perfect system that rules out all possibility of error. We are all human, and we will always make mistakes. The problem with that when dealing with capital punishment is that you cant go back.
This doesnt mean that the justice system cant be improved to ensure that the guilty are caught and the innocent ppl arent mistakenly punished. There are so many different areas that need addressing, but I'll focus on a few.
The study I posted above illustrated a good starting point. Eye witnesses, whose testimony is relied upon heavily in the courts, is subject to bias due to feedback from law enforcement. A possible solution here is "double-blind" testing, where the person adminstering the lineup doesnt know who the suspect is so there isnt a chance of informing the witness. The police have been slow to adopt this because they think it questions their honesty and integrity, but its necessary because they unintentionally influence the person they are testing.
