Default Holy Huge Intake Batman!!

Dude, what's up with having an intake that's larger than your intake manifold???

Because of some physics quality that benefits the intake. Manufacturers wouldn't spend all that money on a carbon fiber intake for nothing. My guess is that it has an effect much like velocity stacks.

It would help... about .05 HP.

It is used on higher HP cars so there is a higher volume of air that doesnt have to go through a filter.

When a volume of air or liquid goes through a funnel it increases in speed/velocity. ITBs often have velocity stacks on them, the metal tubes that are tapered. Carburetors sometimes have velocity stacks on them, like mine. Usually on FI intakes each cylinder's plenum is made into a velocity stack instead of the CAI pipe tapering into the manifold. I think it has more to do with powerband/torque than HP gain. HP is not the only thing you want in a car you know. If you look for high performance intake manifolds you'll find some with velocity stacks built in. Look at the individual cylinder plenums and you'll see that they are tapered. But I don't know if that's what this intake does, I'm just guessing. If we knew the brand of the intake it would help.

I see. I feel educated, thanks :thumb:

I actually don't know the brand of the intake, I just saw the pic and posted it. I got it off of http://www.houston-imports.com

Well don't take everything I said as set in stone fact. That's just the basics I learned in physics in HS. I'm sure it gets much more complicated than that.

the brand is (J's racing) and it helps charge the cylinders with air. it makes better mid-range hp/tq than most other regular intakes.

There ya go. Sometimes it's not about how much power, but when you get it.
