omg, you massively cuss every video you get your eyes on. This guy drives very damn well! His apexes are clean, until he gets under pressure from other cars that push him to the outside of the track. That gearbox noise is insane, and I wonder do they shift on engine noise or tach?!? lol

Funny, the driver is Fred Olij and he is racing a BMW 325i in the Dutch Supercar Challenge, and the noise is indeed his racing transmission!!

Everytime someone comes over, I get them to watch this video. How the hell does he put up with the transmission sound in the car. I had to mute on for a few moments throughout that race.

the sound is definitely the transmission, if you listen it changes according to the speed of the car, it doesn't fall with engine speed on an upshift.

hey that BMW vid was insane and im sure that vid would really suit his portfolio as a pro racer. but does any body know any thing abt the race result. im sure he must be like 5th or 6th but just for the interest i wanna know the race result badly. and does any body know more abt the driver. plz tell me . i showed that vid to nearul all of my friends who love to race but everybody wants to know if hes schumacher or something.. LOL cause he drove awesome

If the sound increases with speed, its not a supercharger, thats probably the rear diff, thats the only thing other than the tires that increases along with the wheel speed.

No, for the final time it's the transmission.

Race gearboxes (sometimes called crashboxes) use straight cut gears (which are stronger) rather than helical cut gears (which are quieter).

For those of you with a manual transmission...you probably notice this same whine when driving in reverse. That's because most cars also use a straight cut reverse gear.
