A supercharger forces air into the manifold using a turbine that is spun by gears and pulleys.
Exhaust gas are used to spin a turbocharger's turbine.

So basically you would imagine this system to improve low rpm engine response (supercharger) and hence spool the turbo faster.

Still I don't get the point of this combo

Have seen tha car a couple of times when I visited their tuning shop. Had one of my alfas repainted there. The car is insane even wilder now it seems then the older e36 (with that same engine)
