Help me out here guys, I've never tracked a car. What did he do wrong? It looked to me like the car just decided to go sideways all of the sudden...

for me it seems like he lagged to straighten the steering wheel while shifting so the car was pulled by the grass or the thing on the corner

Well first mistake would be turning too much you really can let the curb tunr the car for you a little, secong mistake would be letting off the gas or hitting the brakes when it started to get sideways

He caught the curb the wrong way. He was between gears, so weight was transferred from the back wheels to the front. The curb further unloaded the rear, which broke traction upon acceleration.
