My mate used to race against Bilko quite some years ago now. At the nationals (aus), my mate came 3rd and Bilko 4th! This iirc was back when they were on 80s or 125's. My mate wonders what could have been if he kept riding- lack of money when racing at those levels is the reason he stopped.

lack of funds is the main reason most of us have stopped / will stop racing. It's stupidly expensive the more you get into it. I just redid the topend on my 250F.....holy Shyte....$750 for a piston, rings, wristpin/bearing, gasket set, newly plated cylinder, and a few more odds and ins.
On my 125 (2 stroke), that same kit (which has less pieces) only cost me about 200'ish. On another note - I'm still waiting for someone to go fulltime into FMX with a 4 stroke as their ride. It's doable...a lil more tricky...but very doable. If James Stewart can get his bike upside down during a routine whip...well, ya'll get the point.

i guess that due to the weight of a 4 stroke.i dont see the point of carrying the xtra weight. for somthing that isnt going to make u go much faster. ive only road a hjandfull of bikes.but know a cr 450f is like a tank.compairing it to a cr 250 2001. my firend just got a 2004 ktm 125. and that thing is a joy to ride. its so light and well not as badass as a cr250 on power. http://www.tremek.com/forum/attachme...6&d=1180909270

While I had my Cr250- 98 model and my mate had his 426, the weight is, imo, not an issue, because in reality there is very little difference.
I've just had to do piston, rings, barell on my 01 RM250 and I'm so glad I have a 2 smoke because the cost is nothing compared to a 4 stroke rebuild! And I really am liking the look of these new KTM 144 and TM 144 2 smokes that are currently racing and kicking arse in the 250f class/s in Europe.
