Default Gordon Murray on the NSX

Gordon Murray, designer of the Mclaren F1, talks about the NSX. Its a great read. Honda's relunctance to put in a bigger motor really held the car back from being truly great.

I've never driven 1 but I have been in a couple (fliplight ver) It was by no means slow and handled very well. Why they didn't put a turbo on it is beyond me. Boost can definitely take care of the fact that it's underpowered. I guess Honda was trying to make more out of less, unfortunately though that's not what people are looking for in a $80,000 car

agreed, its too slow from the factory, especially for being so expensive but a nice turbo set up makes it dominate everything

Yeah....I agree, they are slow for what they cost. By no means a slouch, but a tad on the slow side. A bolt-on T/A that I was riding in killed one one time. It looked good, but got wasted.

It's a damn shame I think if Honda would have just realized what the car was and dropped the price to somewhere around $50-60K I think it would have been a much better seller.

Good read. I'm not surprised by what he has said though. An underated (and underpowered unfortunately) car. I'd be more than happy to own one! I have heard similar things from an owner of a NSX that own a variety of supercars and he rates the NSX extremely highly also.

nice article, and honda is afraid of turbos, they were scared to even put a s/c on a car. they dont like the chance of unreliability. nissan on the otherhand did it and have a good amount of sporty and kick ass cars

its kinda a mentallity thing with Honda. other jap manufacturers were made by big corporations while Honda was founded by just one man and his beliefs, and that shows in their choices.
