The National Safety Council is pushing for a nationwide ban on cell phone use while driving. The council is campaigning in all 50 states and the District of Columbia for a ban. The NSC is also contacting businesses that have employees on the road and urging them to ban phone calls on the road. Thanks, but I already have a mom.

The NSC has found that cell phone use quadruples a driver’s risk of being in an accident. The council also acknowledges that there are much more dangerous activities that drivers routinely engage in while driving, but says that because cell phone use is a much more common than any other potential distraction, it is worth banning. You can still drink a coffee, do your makeup, shave and make a burrito, all at the same time while driving. But if the NCS has its way, you won’t be able to tell anyone about it.

The NSC never acknowledges the fact that drivers are adults who can make their own decisions. Yes, these decisions could negatively affect others, but it is every adult’s responsibility to ensure that his or her actions don’t negatively impact others. If we start banning everything that could possibly harm a person, pretty sure we’ll all be walking aroound in protective bubbles, if we leave the house at all.

I agree. It's bad enough that some people cannot drive for shit, then they add a distraction into the mix. That should def. be a law that carries a heafty fine w/ it.

^^ Exactly. It's sad that u can't leave people to make common sense decision's for their own safety and others. Shouldn't basic physics be obvious @ this point. U r driving a metal object, weighing anywhere from 2000lbs to (fill in the blank) @ speed? How much does the average human weigh? Babbling on the phone is a lil less important...

I have been almost run off the road several times by either some dumb biotch or young kid while they were yapping away on the cell. I have been sitting at a stop light and and looked back into my rear view mirror only to see a tahoe barreling down on me because the dumb twat was yapping away.....Needless to say I ran the intersection before getting rear ended.

If the God damn call is that important, PULL THE FUK OVER to talk. Or......use that little thing called caller I.D. and voicemail.....you can see who called once you stop and get the message and call the ass-hole back.

Most of us agreed when that guy was babbling on his cell phone and hit ur kid that when u whooped his ass u were in the right which i totally agree with. With that being said, why do we allow people in potentially life threatening situations to get away with putting ur and every1 else's life in danger for something so stupid. These people need to be taught a lesson and i can guarantee u if some moron is sitting there after almost hitting u and u got out of the car punched them straight in the head (just once, no comma or anything) and then said "get off the f*cking phone" they would most likely never do this again. Since these laws aren't enforced and r broken by the same people that r supposed to enforce them I don't see much of a choice.

i agree. we already have the ban here in chicago. but most cops are pretty cool about it they will give you a warning first. you can still use bluetooth and ironically text but with this bill that these *******s are trying to pass it will ban bluetooth too.

Johnny, I had to run the intersection and there was no way in hell I was going to sit there and wait for HER to go past and follow her to punch her lights out. And as far as the people drifting over to the next lane while on the hwy and almost hitting me.....who knows if they are packing a gun in their car? The dude I knocked out in a parking lot was well away from his car and after I was done w/ him, there was no damn way he could have collected himself, went back to his car and properly employed any weapon....he was dazed and confused. lol

Go for it, post pictures of the results. A little advice though, get health insurance and the name of a good lawyer before hand. I guarantee you'll need at least one of those.

You can't ban cell-phone use unless you ban everything else a driver can be distracted by.

Radios, eating, small children, women and makeup. We also need to ban roadside advertising. That is also distracting (especially ones with attractive women on them). Ban flashy paint jobs on cars, bumper stickers, and require blondes to have tinted glass so men won't be distracted trying to look at them as they pull alongside. Make it a requirement that passengers in a moving vehicle must wear a gag, so they can't distract their driver with conversation.

Obviously these ideas are ridiculous....but so are bans on cell phone use. Stupid people are going to be stupid. You can't legislate intelligence. If you wanted to, you'd have to actually have intelligent people running the country, and the truly intelligent people have real jobs that pay real money. Politicians are just good at making the mob think they are intelligent (and sometimes they can't even do that).
