Default OFFICIAL GTR 7:29 On Ring

Official, Nissan Announced GT-R Laps Nurburgring in 7m 29s

Hmmm lets see what the V-spec does.

Kazutoshi Mizuno, Chief Vehicle Engineer for GT-R said “At last year’s testing, we were frustrated by the conditions at the Nürburgring, always believing that the GT-R could go under seven minutes 30 seconds, the GT-R proves it is among the fastest mass-production cars in the world. We set out to build a multi-performance supercar accessible to anyone, anytime and anywhere – I believe the GT-R has delivered that promise.”

The world can now look forward to a response from the GT-R's main competitor, the Porsche 911 Turbo whose best time stands at a lowly 7 minutes and 40 seconds.

i still cant believe that a car heavier, less powerful and with worst CoG than a Carrera GT can be faster.

Heres a vid of a gtr loosing it. apart from the spin, note that the gtr isnt getting away from the gt3

It seems the heavyweight GTR is good on the straight away and excellent on tracks with not too tight corners. On that vid u can see it shine on corner exits as it pulls away a bit on some corners. ATTESSA-ETS and tires might deploy mini spikes with all that grip the GTR grabs. Damn GTR has grip and seems to defy the laws of physics.... Heavy as hell and hella fast despite it's weight. It's puts it's power down extremely well. And yup depends on the driver aswell

"First up that Nurburgring lap. The target for the GTR was always 7:30 - and it had to be achieved in a fully representative 'customer-spec' car. Mizuno is quite clear on this: 'This time was set on a totally standard car, just like a customer will get. For us 'Time Attack' must be repeatable in a customer car. No special brake pads or cut-slick tyres - everything was standard GTR.' The time, set on April 8th, was achieved on the Dunlop SP Sport 600 DSST tyre that is standard on the basic GTR (i.e. non Premium or 'Black' spec, which both have Bridgestone RE070R tyres). The Dunlop is a little noisier and not quite as good in the wet as the RE070R, but in the dry it's worth 4-5 seconds around the 'Ring. Incredibly all the tests of the GTR in the UK so far have been on the slower Bridgestone - and yet it has consistently set faster lap times than cars like the GT3."

Ok NAGTROC folk that were questioning if the Dunlop Sport tires were quicker than the premium Bridgestone tires.

"Incredibly there's more to come. Mizuno, Suzuki and the rest of the team are already well into the V-Spec development programme. Both men are tight lipped about the project but with an increase in power (to around 550bhp) and a 100kg weight saving, the V-Spec should move the GTR even further ahead of its rivals. Suzuki thinks the car should be as much as 10-seconds quicker than the standard car around the 'Ring. However, the V-Spec will have more extreme track-biased tyres, which will account for a large chunk of the time saving."

Vspec they want to be 10 seconds quicker."

Not all Nurburgring times are the same, they did not disclose if this was a full lap or bridge to gantry (both times are recognized, quoted, and share the same best lap times list) which could take off 20-30 seconds, come to think of it, that would make sense, if 20-30 seconds was added to that lap time it would put it in the 7:50's comparable to cars like the Ferrari F430, Lamborghini Gallardo, and Porsche 911.

Manufacturers handle the ring differently, with different area starts, stand stills, running starts and the inevitable tweaks here and there, regardless a vid of this run should pop up eventually.

I hope so, I'd like to see how they timed this run, but untill then no one will know, there's really 3 different times that can be posted as the "lap time around the 'Ring" 1: full lap, 2: limited speed through T13 to allow safe access from the old exit/entrance so it's cut short which yields a 5-10 second shorter lap, or 3: bridge to gantry which yields a 20-30 second shorter lap, knowing that the times posted by cars like the Carrera GT, Mclaren SLR, or even the ZO6 are of the full lap, it would be pure RICE if Nissan uses the bridge to gantry time to mislead the public, the ricers and the GTR fan boys, I'm not a hater and I don't wanna sound like a hater, I think Nissan did a good job with the GTR but if the 7:29 time was indeed that of the full lap, that would translate to a BTG time of 7:00's and based on the GTR's specs it is inconceivable.

Oh great, Best Motoring is pure RICE, these are the same F*ckers who put a 10 year old NSX up against the latest and greatest supercars and win, I guess their new poster boy is the GTR, good luck seeing anything beat it in any of their tests.
