That's pretty ridiculous if it's true, they should have just staked out the roads around there and busted people for actual street racing instead of issuing stupid tickets.

In the cops defense if they go their and people have ILLEGAL mods done to their cars it's not the cops fault. It's easy money. Go where you have the high probability of catching things to ticket for.

While I completely agree with you Talon, from what I could gather in the article it wasn't clear as to whether or not people actually had illegal modification on their cars.
What struck me the most, taken outside of the car context in this article, was the fact they conducted a warantless search of cars that were at a dead stand still....and that they used tax payers money to do it. Thats just fu**ing wrong. Cops are losing their sense of morality and operating way outside of their jurisdiction. It makes me wonder if we are very slowly losing our constitutional rights (peaceful assembly in this case) with each passing year. Very scary in my opinion. The problem is police get comfortable with violating peoples rights like this...eventually culture views it as "normal" or acceptable for police to do this and in my opinion before you know it you are living in an authoritarian type system. |

I read some of the other "articles" on that site. All of them are very very biased against any form of police action what-so-ever. So until I see an actual news article about this particular incident it's hard to judge. You say peaceful assembly but it might not have been that. There could have been people out there revving engines and showing off insanely loud sound systems that would be considered an annoyance. As far as the police violating there rights, how do you figure they did that? Giving people tickets for illegal stuff?

Well said Talon, burnouts are for cun*s but on the topic of a sound system, what if the system is being blasted pretty loud...if it's a legal system they have the right to do that until a certain hour I believe (out here its 10pm Im pretty sure)
I guess it's just sad to me because who are they hurting by doing that? I guess the police have nothing better to do. Even if they were blasting music...people no longer have the right to gather and do that? It's just music. |

Depending on the area. Some areas do not allow loud shit no matter what time. And there is some music that should never be blasted but still does.

If the cops are relying on regular citizens to not have a firm understanding of their constitutional rights, then what the cops are doing is wrong, even if the law allows it.

That's a valid point: I'll bet there were no street races after that meet, and probably not the next week either.
