2009 slobalt

Seems the new 2009 cobalt is less slow now... no change to the styling from the departed supercharged model, but significant changes to chassis/powertrain:

- 260 hp direct injection, vvt turbo motor
- all new chassis/suspension
- 8:22.85 time at nurburgring, which apparently is a class record: 13 seconds faster than any other stock fwd sport compact. Ties a E46 M3, and faster than a STi.

It only took then 4 years after the original srt-4 was discontinued to do it .

260hp out of the box is stout, unmodded or even slightly modded srt4's will get delt with. I wanna see a 60 trim and bolt-ons and tuning on the eco tech.....should make 500+ easily. good luck hooking up.

Fair enough statement... the srt-4 was the first car in the class that had "torque" in its vocabulary and could be built into something that could be feared. It could be argued that mazdaspeed 3 unseated it (stock to stock) when it came out, but it looks like there is a new sherriff in town

Not sure about that. I have yet to find what the fastest ms3 stock is but I do know what an excellent driver in a srt-4 can do. The only thing that makes the mazda slightly better is the interior. But then again it costs more as well.

As far as the cobalt and it's 260hp I will wait to see what it runs and what it actually puts down at the wheels before jumping to conclusions.

The srt-4 is probably faster by a few ticks in the 1/4 mile. The fastest time ive seen is 13.7 @ 100 mph. I do know that a ms3 has about 5 mph more top speed, and is faster around a circuit than the srt-4. Aside from the interior, Id also give the edge to the ms3's suspension tuning.

EDIT: to clarify, i meant that the fastest that i saw for a ms3 was 13.7 - so you are right, a srt-4 is a leeeetle bit faster in a drag.
