Ok... Wow... Nice one scotsdodge. Respond to an argument about what motorsport is about by attacking the person who made the statement. Classy. Clearly your argument is right and anyone who doesn't understand why is too stupid to matter. Just because I'm one of those stupid people, though, here are a number of responses to the drivel you continue to spew.
Yes... I have a "jap crap" outback. Yes, it may only be worth $50 in a few years. In fact, I'm willing to guarantee that it will only be worth $50 in a few years. Why? Because it was cheap when I bought it and I abuse the hell out of it running local rallycross events. I wasn't interested in spending a chunk on a car just to go out and have some fun in. Clearly this makes me unintelligent. As for doing something for "poor man's motorsport"... That's exactly what you just made fun of me for. I bought a cheap ass used car to go out and have some fun in local events. Total cost of the car: $1000, and I've been beating it up for a couple years now. The events are cheap to enter, all happen within a couple hours of where I live, and don't conflict with my other racing/work schedules. Local autocross/rallycross is the easiest form of motorsports for someone to get into on a budget. As for Marko's events being easy for poor people or people on a limited budget, that's just absurd. Who was the last poor person you knew who could take a couple months off work to go on a road trip? I certainly don't know any. Even people who earn a fair amount of money generally can't just up and leave work/family/home commitments for an extended period of time. Basically the only people who can run these events when you consider the opportunity costs of running them are Marko himself and rich people who like the idea of a road trip in an organized event. Now, as for why this Marko Fleming guy and your insistence on calling it motorsport pisses me off: driving does not equate with motorsport. I think the key is that you called his events what they really are: "...new events and road trips that are great fun..." I'm missing where the sport part of motorsport is in there. Motorsport is about pushing the limits of some form of competition, which was what I explained in my last post. I guess your silence in actually providing a substantive response to that point must be an implicit admission of its veracity. But then again, I own a subaru, so clearly I'm stupid and all of what I just said is wrong...
