Workers at Aston Martin in Warwickshire are to stage a one hour walk-out in a dispute over a pay deal just weeks after a £450m takeover.

Members of the Transport and General Workers Union will also introduce an overtime ban at the Gaydon plant.

The company was recently sold by Ford to UK businessman David Richards. It said it is disappointed by the action.

The union said its 656 members were concerned about many workers being paid less than colleagues for the same job.

Members voted in favour of strike action after rejecting a two-year pay deal worth up to 6.75%.

'Fair offer'

Des Quinn, from the union, said the walk out is a powerful way to kick off the campaign.

"It is a signal to the company that we do intend to take industrial action in pursuance of a negotiated outcome to this dispute," he said.

In a statement the company said: "This is a very disappointing outcome to a fair offer designed to improve Aston Martin's competitive performance, particularly as the union leadership initially recommended acceptance of the company's offer."

It said the firm is entering its "most significant and exciting period of change".

"It is therefore sad that when we are about to enter one of the brightest points in the company's future that we have union members voting not to accept these substantial improvements to pay and benefits."
