Independent rally racers looking for a super exclusive and likely very expensive car to hit the circuits with, look no further.

Motorsport specialist Prodrive and Aston Martin are teaming up again to produce another special competition car, this time for rally events. Prodrive has previously worked with Aston Martin on its DBR9 Le Mans sports car racer.

Called the Aston Martin Rally GT, the car is based on an Aston Martin V8 Vantage and has been significantly re-worked by Prodrive, which boasts of more than 20 years experience producing rally worthy vehicles.

Similar to the process that produced the DBR9, Prodrive took the standard V8 Vantage chassis, added its specially-designed roll cage and massaged the Vantage’s 4.3-liter engine to better handle stress of rally racing.

Look for the Aston Martin Rally GT to be campaigned by independent racers in 2007.
The suspension was also reworked, with new Eibach springs and three-way adjustable EXE-TC dampers bolstering the base car’s wishbone setup.

In addition, a six-speed, close ratio gearbox developed specifically for the car is available as an option. The car will also run with the Vantage’s standard six-speed manual.

Prodrive has already campaigned the car in three French Rally Championship events, with the car scoring a second place finish in the Series GT class in its debut at the Lyon to Charbonniers Rally.

No word yet on pricing or how many cars will be available for sale. Prodrive says the first copies will be ready by the end of 2006.

Don't the rally rules say the engine must be a 2.0L

only if you want to enter the WRC class, I believe. There are other classes you can enter other than WRC, Group N or JWRC. Especially on local events.

unless they've done some amazing things with weight ratios, that's going to need a spoiler for cornering and jumps. It might look kinda dumb to have a spoiler on an aston, but if its needed, its needed.
