It was quite a good day. I had a couple of friends driving over from the Czech Republic with some pretty serious cars. (Porsche GT3-RS, Gallardo, F360, Carrera GT, Z06, etc). I enjoyed the light Sunday morning traffic driving to the Nürburgring...semi trucks are not allowed to drive on Sunday which really helps with traffic. I had a few chances to bury the needle. I took along the GPS too which indicated a solid 177 mph (286 km/h). Road conditions and traffic didn't let me go any faster.
For most of the guys from the Czech Republic, this was their first time on the Nürburgring. Below is a warmup lap where I follow my friend in his tuned Porsche GT3-RS. The car has a full race exhaust system and is very loud. He was kicked off the Hockenheimring for registering 120 db from the pits. We took it easy (laptime just over 11 minutes). The video is still cool because the car sounds insane and there is a lot of traffic including a Honda de Sol which plastered itself into the guardrail. Also watch as the race prepped Zackspeed Viperjet passes us. Notice that the Viper is burning a little bit of oil. On the 2nd lap, the GT3-RS was stopped and a track official wanted to measure the loudness. He basically failed at idle so they wouldn't let him out. Bummer. I took another lap and came in. On my 3rd lap, I went pretty hard. The video is linked below. My bridge-to-scaffolding laptime was 9:03 which isn't bad. Honestly, I don't think I'm willing to push a "street car" without cage, harnesses, and helmets much harder than that. It gets sorta intense at these speeds. At, 8:30 the car always gets really really light (and even pops out of gear from the forces as seen in the video). The car also gets light and squirrelly at 2:21, the same place where Jan Magnusson launched the mighty Z06. Overall, it was a fun day. Nik with the GT3-RS snuck his way back onto the course when the officials weren't looking, so at least his long drive wasn't for nothing. Enjoy the videos and pictures. As always, you'll need the DivX codec to view the videos.
