think about this the corvette has 400 hp from a 6 liter v8 the audi makes
420 from 4.2 liters.those are ferrari type of numbers.100horsepower/liter
for roughly 70 to 80 grand.

don't let horsepower per litre figures be misleading. they mean nothing unless a manufacturer is put in a situation where there is a limit on displacement.

also, the vette engine is not stressing the crap out of its components. although audi builds tough stuff, and this new 4.2 is modern, the engine is really being pushed...hopefully it is a design that will hold up over years and years.

i'm an audi fan though, so don't get me wrong...i want an RS as bad as the next guy

That's exactly what happens in Europe. You get taxed yearly on the displacement of your engine. Insurance also takes displacement into account.

This is one of the reasons why European car makers strive to get more power out of smaller displacements.

The Corvette engine is under less stress...but the parts aren't as strong either. It uses cast pistons versus full forged parts in the Audi.

Someone in Europe that can afford to pay gas on a car with 4000lbs and 420hp can also afford to pay taxes on a car with 6L. Moreover, displacement taxes in europe go in brackets, and the last one is 3500cc+ so a car with 4.2L or 6.0L would pay the same.

The reason the corvette doesnt come with forged pistons is because it doesnt need it. It does however have a forged crank. But if you look in a corvette within the same price range as the Audi RS, the corvette Z06 would have full forged parts including titanium con-rods.

Don't be mislead by the numbers because Audi makes 420hp only on for example 6000rpm but on 5500rpm it makes much less. This is not the case with corvette because it's "power function" ,as we call it on college, is more stable. I don't know if you understand me (sorry for bad english) but 6.0 liter engine has high output on wide range of rpm.

Don't take me wrong, I am a great Audi fan (who isn't ). I would die to drive this beast!
