You are absolutely correct about the engines and their capabilities. The hp figures I was listing were just a rough idea of what is practical from those motors.
The weight problem you suggest isn't as bad as you suggesst if you mount it right. I have the RB 20det in my car. They are the same weight as the RB25det (RB25 tranny is a little heavier, but that is behind the front wheels). Many people try to use the Skyline crossmember to mount the RB engines and it mounts them too high and forward. They DO ruin the balance of the car. I used custom motor mounts to lower the engine and move it back about 2 inches. The balance is little different than stock and only weighs 70lb more total.
Why did I go with the RB... Because back when I put it in (2 years ago) there wasn't as much info or parts for the KA. And the RB was there...So I wanted one. I wanted something different than alll these people screaming SR SR SR oooooohh SR! They dont even know why the want one
Also I like to drive the crap out of an engine ALL the time. With the RB you have to. All the power is up top, like a 2 stroke dirt bike. All of the real power is between 6000-8000rpm. The KA is a mid to fairly high rpm (3000-6000rpm) torque monster... Torque is what wins drag races
