Alot of Nissan owners like to look past the Ka24... I don't think anyone really knows why, some people are just dumb like that. I guess its just not JDM enough.
Thats, said, people import motors for the 240sx, and they use the SR20det obviously. For those, who want a more drag biased approach, then the RB was the next logical choice, being a heigher displacement/power capacity imported motor.
I don't want to be an ass or anything, but i really find assigning "Horsepower" abilities to a motor to be inneffective. There are people pulling 1000hp out of mitsu's 2L 4g63, but that doesn't mean its a comfortable, streetable 1000hp.
You can probably make about 500hp on the KA and still have fun driving it around town. To make much north of that, you're going to be using a god awful massive GT series BB turbo in all likelyhood, spin the motor to 10k and not make boost until 6k.
With an RB25Det will probably make 600 or 700 horsepower before you have to have the really super-nasty cams, and stupid laggy turbo. Also note that putting a higher displacement motor like the RB up front will throw off your weight balance and if not ruin, laregely disturb your car's handling dynamics.
One man's racecar is another's street car, and its all about what you like. The RB will make the most horsepower comfortably, but at the cost of weight distribution.
Before anyone gets up in my face, Its all about trade offs, and I'm just trying to say that theres alot more to it than horepower numbers.
