Turbos are catching on, and the technology is old. V8s do rev high, they just don't have to rev high to make power. Plus, the most popular type of supercharger on the planet, the centrifugal, will spool up slowly as well. In fact, with proper turbo planning (getting the correct size turbine and compression map), a turbo will have no real lag at all. Just look at the new line of Audi turbos and VW and you will see that peak torque arrives at 1900rpms for some cars. Try that with a supercharger.
