Unlike BMW and Mercedes, Audi's Quattro AWD system is the keystone to the Audi design philosophy. It's what separates Audi from any brutish vehicle that only uses its rear wheels to propel itself...or even it's corporate sibling: lowly, status-challenged Volkswagen.
Without Quattro, the brand offers little that the other main German contenders don't already have in spades, like high-end status, instant brand recognition, and unquestioned desirability and style. Remember, that in the world of luxury vehicles, image is everything. Economy, reliability, durability, utility, value, and sensibility have no place here.
Interestingly, both BMW and M-B both have AWD systems available on select vehicles in their respective line-ups, but the availability of AWD isn't the sole reason why someone would immediately choose an applicable model from either of these two manufacturers.
So, at every possible chance, the Quattro system is touted in Audi's adverts. Hence, this advert. I'm sure that if they could get an Audi to drive up the vertical side of a skycraper they would--and yes, Jeep has already done that.
