He means the ECU will have a fit if you have to replace one tire b/c of a nail or uneven wearing. Most awd cars, and particularly those with electronic distribution, are very sensitive to changes in tire diameter because they use that information to help decide how much power to route to each wheel and may overheat the differentials if one tire is marginally larger than the others.. Thats why you are sometimes forced to change all 4 tires even if just one is bad...
