Personally not relevant for me. I have a clean home and have never had rodents. Im more worried about someone trying to jack my stuff than plague carrying rats and my 110 lb dog was a hell of a better deterrent than an alarm system.

If they were better than dogs, why dont we have cat handler police units instead of K-9 units? Surely the exposure to allergens from cats would be minimal during a border check and deemed an acceptable compromise if they were that much better than dogs. Why arent the used at customs docks for incoming goods where there are no people around?

Again, why arent they used in practice then? Do the police really care if the criminal hiding in the woods is allergic to cats or not? I dont think the police care if the criminal perceives the cat or the dog as more lovable.

Here are 3 examples i found on the very first page of a search. I was not able to find any comparable cat stories.

Katrina Dog Hero: Dog Saves Storm Victim from Drowning
"While teams in helicopters and boats snatched people and animals from harm's way, a black Labrador retriever was staging her own heroic rescue. One fortunate man told how, when the waters rose, the dog pulled him to higher ground and prevented his drowning. He fully credited her with saving his life. After the man's story was aired on television, a rescue team returned to save the dog."
