You're not safe on an island, since Zombies don't need air to survive, they can surround your island and come out of the sea to get you.

You need a castle-like fortification from which to kill everything safely from high up, and then launch scavenging parties for more ammo and supplies.

I agree with 01mmmz28, go where it freezes in the winter, since Zombies are no longer warm blooded, you'll have a few free months a year to prepare for them to thaw in the spring.

EDIT: You'll also have less living people wanting to steal your stuff to fight off.
