Its b/c back in the day, when NASCAR used real production cars to race with instead of purpose built, tube frame cars, they had to work within the compromises of a car that wasnt intended to go 200 mph. The spoiler is that high b/c that is what works. The spoilers you see on those civics dont do crap.

It got banned b/c it was too fast. Sometimes what works and what is pleasing to the eye are two different things.
