I have actually heard a story from a guy David Broadhurst, here is Sydneys west.He owned BRE rotary engineering at windsor, and raced speedway in a High compression 10A PP rotary powered Midget sprintcar.I actually saw the casting plates he made to pour the mouldings to bolt into the combustion chamber recess in the faces of the rotor, for raised compression. He said once the throttle stuck wide open and the PP free reved to god knows how many RPM . The rotor housing split open apparently, and a rotor landed in the infield.!!! This was a very Extreme race engine though and would never happen on any street engine. So i wouldnt say it was not possible, but in the case of that green RX7, definatly not.
