that seems familiar to me... it could be your valves that arent properly adjusted but im not sure... Check your timing belt for starters, does the steering pump squeek or is just hard to turn the wheel?

Wait!!! your car is OBD-2 right? RUN to the nearest napa and get the obd scanner its like 40$, im not sure but the connector is behind the ashtray you will know alot from it, if the timing is off, misfiring, too rich, too poor...

GOd that noise is very very very familiar i just cant remember it dammit, im too used to the sound of the 8 valves in my brick...
