Thanks for the info, another issue is a few of the warning lights. Low fuel, washer fluid, and the charging light are all on. I think the sending unit needs a new float or just needs to be replaced totally, weird resistance coming out of that (reading the ohmage for empty with about 2 gallons in it). The washer fluid resevoir is almost full and I still get the light, I'm thinking I might need a new one of those as well. And as for the charging light, I measure 14.7 volts across the battery when it's running, so that's a total mystery.

Not expecting much here as far as help goes, but if you've had a similar issue I'd love some direction here.
