He was trying until he misshifted....the camaro is fast but it would have been an even race between the two. I don't see what is so hard to believe that the camaro mis-shifted in a serious race or why the laser is horribly modified. It was modified pretty well for the purpose it was used for. High flow fuel pump, adjustable fuel regulator, 550cc's, AFC, front mount (custom made from two side mounts), full intake and 2.5-3 inch exhaust, the bottom end was stout, the only thing that the guy did that was weird was he ran a Felpro headgasket....why, b/c his reasoning was that if the engine started to overheat he wanted to make sure the headgasket went first b/c the felpro headgasket is crap for a modified DSM. The DSM was a very fast car and hung well and beat many domestic cars. The camaro at that time wasn't very modified and it would have been a close race. I don't see why people get so closed minded about cars thinking that a higher displacement motor with more cylinders will always beat something with a lower displacement engine with less cylinders. It's all about physics. Power to weight ratio. So unless you're being sarcastic than why don't you leave your closed minded comments for some other forum because I, for one, am sick of the typical V8s are better b/c they're bigger.....the whole "no replacement for displacement is crap......I know a shorter stroke wider bore will benefit from more torque, but not everyone has to use this method to be fast. For every "Horribly moddified import car", I'm betting there are an equal ammount of horribly moddified domestic cars out there. So unless you know what happened stop trying to assume. Camaro mis-shifts, laser just playing around floors it for fun and the oil filter blows off (a common problem with 1G DSMs after '90....91-94 had different oil filter housings.....90 style had a larger filter and external oil cooler fittings.) This happened about two years ago and was on TexasRacingScene.com and the yahoo group sadsm. If you can find info about ToplessTurbo on any of the DSM boards you'll be able to see some of his mods and times. I'm sure your time can be spent on a domestic thread talking about how V8s have been touched with the hand of God and can never be defeated by the lowly import class motors.
