I said "what engines will stand up to 20+ lbs of boost," not what will make 500hp.

If you want highest horspower done regularly on stock internals, here are a few examples:

Nissan vg30det (3.0L V6) will hold up at 550hp at the wheels
Toyota 1JZ (3.0L I6) will hold 700hp+ at the wheels
Nissan RB26dett (2.6L I6) will go 700hp+ at the wheels
Mazda 13bt (1.3L Rotary) 550hp at the wheels

Notice that all these are over 500hp, all are at the wheels, all are around half the displacement of your ford 5.0.

If you know a lot about all types of engines, you will see that "ricer" engines may be small, but they can pack a punch. Ever see an SR20 connecting rod compared to a Chevy Pink rod? You will see that even though the nissan rod is going into an engine that is less than half of the size of the mouse motor, the rod is amazingly beefy.

As for me, I am not a muscle car guy, I am not a ricer. I don't have a bias towards either one. Just standing back looking at all the muscle car guys say how shitty import stuff is, and all the import guys saying how shitty the domestic stuff is.
