its not your friend responsibilty that the company didnt go up to date with his insurance coverage,
if he ever got pulled over or whatever or a ticket whatever just something that would show , it would be good
we both understand eachother when i say that the insurance company skipped a pretty important detail by not advising your buddy that he wasnt insured.

i was never asked for picture or ID to get insured, all i needed was my license # + i did it over the phone
you have to be able to prove that The insurance company missled your friend, that they made him believe that he was insured and he was paying them, so what did the payment go for?
if you sue you can win the amound back plus consolidation
its the small details that make it big
you just cannot deal with issues like this in any agressive way
so get :
-proof of payments
-insurance contracts saying you need a picture and a signature
